With the improvement of life quality and the development of hygiene habits, wet wipes will gradually become a daily necessity for people. Five decades ago, wipes were a simple tool that can quickly clean their hands after eating for people. Although wet wipes have been around for a long time, the appearance of wet wipes in the 1970s really expanded the market demand, and the application of wet wipes in other aspects also appeared around the 1990s. Since then, wet wipes in the global market have grown in demand. Internationally, baby wipes are the earliest wet wipes and the most widely used wipes. In recent years, after baby diapers, wet wipes have become the most consumed, which attracted increasing fresh investment and new brands. Besides, varieties of wet wipes have increased. Wet wipes as a convenience and sanitation of daily consumer goods are accepted and used by more people.
Wipes can be divided into home use and industrial use. In China, there are few types and consumption of industrial wipes, which are limited to catering and other uses. Home wipes are divided into personal care wipes and home cleaning wipes according to usage.
The cost of wet wipes is one of the most important problems for investors and buyers. The cost and price of wet wipes mainly depend on non-woven fabrics and manner of packing. Infant wet wipes are typically made of spunlace non-woven fabrics, which can be divided into straight laying and cross laying. Straight paving has poor tensile strength, is thinner, more transparent, and is easy to alter shape, fluff, cause the baby’s physical discomfort. Cross-lapping is also called vertical and horizontal net weave, with tensile strength, essentially no deformation, thick cloth, not easy penetration. Besides, there are numerous ways of packing wet wipes. Packaging also greatly affects the cost of wipes. From the perspective of preservation, it is best to use a small pack for preservation (showed in picture 1-2). Once encapsulation prevents microbial contamination and prevents moisture loss. However, this packing method is the most costly, so wet wipes are often commonly in large bags pack (showed in picture 3-4). Household wipes are usually packaged in flexible packaging or pull-out containers, and baby wet wipes are often used in easy-to-extract pull-out containers. Different packages have different effects on the osmosis of the solution on the wipes, but all packages will lose the solution once opened. A roll of wipes wrapped in a container dries out at the top, increasing the chances of microbial growth. In containers and flexible packaging, wipes closest to the opening are also very susceptible to contamination. Compared with the easy-liddle container, the large liddle container has a larger opening, which makes it easy for airborne microorganisms to invade. Therefore, healthier and more stable preservation measures are needed. These containers are also the most likely to be reloaded with new wipes, so any previous microbial contamination could build up on the newly loaded wipes ahead of time. As a result of the infiltration of water, the solution contained in the wipes near the top of the container was suitable for the growth of fungi, but the preservatives contained in the solution were not adequate to inhibit the growth of bacteria, while the wipes at the bottom of the container contained sufficient preservatives to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi.
As the development of green protection trend, wet wipes manufacturers will continually keep developing more greener products, such as biodegradable products. Convenience, market acceptance and innovation are still the main pushing power for market development. The market for hand cleaning, body cleaning, home cleaning and alternative cleaning products is expected to see large growth in smaller packages of wipes. The demand for disposable, convenient cleaning products will drive a huge increase in household cleaning wipes, such as general antiseptic wipes. Hand and body cleaning wipes, such as sanitizer products, will also have a large market penetration. Regular bath wipes will find favor with consumers who are bedridden or have trouble bathing. Baby wipes will remain the biggest demand product in the wipe consumer market.
Nowadays, many companies are only tentatively entering the wipes market, rather than developing it as a completely independent product category. At the same time, due to wet tissues, it can not be like ordinary napkins as a necessity for people. Therefore, there is still a certain distance between the wipes market and the real independent market due to the restrictions of the overall market sales, manufacturers’ investment and consumers’ awareness of the wipes. However, it must be acknowledged that in recent years, consumers’ spontaneous acceptance of wet wipes has gradually matured, with more businesses and more people buying them. The wet wipes market is facing a great opportunity, so it is only a matter of time before the wipes market explodes.
